Greatness
When I was an executive recruiter candidates would often lead by telling me what skills/experience they didn’t have relative to the job they were interviewing for. In essence they just told me why I shouldn’t hire them. It’s much easier in fact for us to focus on our shortfalls than to own what we really rock at. It’s easier to own your mess than own your greatness.
Clients have baggage around owning their greatness- it feels arrogant, egocentric and boastful. I get it, no one likes the pompous jerk who walks around telling everyone how fabulous they are (my experience with those folks is that they’re often anything but fabulous). Owning your greatness doesn’t have to feel icky, the goal is to own your power in a way that’s authentic to you.
So how do you start to step into your greatness? The first step is to stop focusing on what you’re not, don’t have, aren’t good at etc and start to focus on what you do well. What are you good at (yes you are great at many things, but you have to give yourself permission and accept your greatness)?
I often ask clients what do you do better than anyone else in the world and most come back with “nothing” as the answer. Sometimes you just have to look for your greatness. Case and point I think I’m the best mom in the world for my kids. I’m also a great cook- see I can own that and not feel icky.
Change your lens and start looking at why you’re great, why I should hire you, why you’re the right leader for this project. You’re retraining your brain to look for your brilliance and that impacts the energy you bring to the room- not icky arrogant energy, but I’ve got this, stand in my power energy. Notice how you feel and how others respond when you own it!
